About the Activities
Activities will take place at the Twin Valley Picnic Shelter (not to be confused with Twin Valley Campground.) To get to the Poker Ride/Poker Hike events, simply go straight on the main road after park office. Keep following it through the park 3.8 miles until you get to Twin Valley Picnic Shelter. Parking staff will direct you where to park.
Horse Riders should plan to ride out between 9:00 - 10:30 and will need to bring Coggins paperwork with them to the registration table where they will get wristband, route details, etc. Riders go out individually or in small groups after checking in. This is not a large group ride and it is not a race. Think leisurely and fun! There will be 5 stops along the route where participants collect poker chips. Dismounting is not required, but riders do need to stay on the marked trail. The ride should take approximately 1 1/2 hours and riders are free to ride on their own after the events. Most trails are grassy or sandy, however there are a few rocky and steeper areas along the north end of the route. Trails are wide and will accommodate carts, however we ask that folks that plan to drive their horses get an early start.
Hikers: Hikers should gather by 10:00. Park Naturalist Josh Kozelka will lead an informational hike on a route separate from riders where he will point out things of interest along the way. The length of the hike will be determined in part by the make up of the hiking group, but plan on at least an hour. Accommodations can be made for those who want to hike longer or shorter distances. Dogs on leash as welcomed! Hikers will have opportunities to draw poker cards along the way. The route will not be strenuous but be sure to wear good walking shoes!
